Nina Grace Holm

Biography

I am a Kentucky-based artist who makes 2-D paint and ink creations. My current collections include playful inked patterns within nature, abstract acrylic interplays of color, and expressionist-inspired paintings of the natural world.

As a young child, I often was found quietly observing the midwestern movement of the clouds, the sounds of the leaves, and the shade of colors in moving fabric. I was, and am, filled with awe of the here and now. Because of this, I encourage the observer to take time to observe the not-so-obvious in the art of life around them. My creations come from a mind of discovery and play, and I believe they invite a playful mind to discover the secrets of each piece.

I am currently exploring paintings of a metaphysical and spiritual nature. Each work is inspired by personal growth in our mystical and mindful world.

Artist Statement

I am fascinated by the interplay between the observer's mind and the art. Can the observer become held to the color and shapes in the art long enough to gain access to the here-and-now of their own imagination?

Inspired by times spent in  Lithuania, Spain, Mexico, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, I recreate indigenous colors and mystical motifs that appear across cultures.

Chance plays an important role in my work, as colors combine and juxtapose to create shapes reminding the observer of corners of the mind.
